Travel like the wind : Suchart Choolee

The iconic sight of pine trees lining the path, interspersed with the sweet pink hues of Wild Himalayan Cherry blossoms—aptly known as the “Thai Sakura”—unfolds before a serene reservoir that mirrors the encircling mountains. This is the enduring image of “Pang Oung,” a dream destination for travelers who love camping to soak in the pristine atmosphere. It is but a glimpse into the charm of “Mae Hong Son,” the “City of Three Mists,” a place of serene beauty and simple living.

The journey to Mae Hong Son is a true lesson in slow travel. The road, with its thousands of winding curves, is not a test of endurance but an invitation to savor the beauty along the way. There’s no need to rush to the destination; happiness is found in every moment of the journey forward.

Although I arrived at “Pang Oung” late in the morning, long after the legendary mist had vanished under the bright sun, the beauty before me was undeniable.

The air was still fresh with the energy of nature. The reflections on the water’s surface, the campsite where some travelers still rested peacefully, and the gentle breeze swaying the pink blossoms against a brilliant blue sky—all of it created a scene that left me hoping for a chance to return one day.Standing in the shade of the pines, I let the tranquil water cast its spell, making the outside world seem to stand still.

.

I allowed my mind to drift, reveling in a feeling of profound ease, as if nature itself was gently replenishing my spirit.

But the charm of Mae Hong Son extends far beyond its famous attractions. The heart of visiting lies in letting intuition be your guide—stopping by a small Karen village near the border or unexpectedly discovering a stunning sea of mist from a random viewpoint. It is a journey that grants you the freedom to discover beauty on your own terms.
