Experience the Enchanting Charm of the World Heritage City Through the Bond of Thai Elephants
Travel like the wind : Suchart Choolee

If you ever have the chance to visit Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, a land rich with traces of history and the enduring beauty of the past in every corner, you cannot miss the Ayutthaya Elephant Camp. This elephant camp is not merely a tourist attraction but a symbol of conservation and a profound narrative of the Thai elephant and the ancient capital.

Upon stepping into the Little Elephant Yard, you will be greeted by gentle-faced young elephants, ready to share joy through various talents and the warmth of their friendly trunks reaching out to you. Every movement harmonizes with live music and expert narration, enhanced by a unique activity called “Crawling Under the Elephant’s Belly,” believed to bring good fortune and blessings to those who experience it. It is a thrilling, fun, and magical moment that leaves a lasting impression.

Meanwhile, the Big Elephant Yard serves as a peaceful resting place where elephants and their mahouts share a close bond. Visitors can capture intimate photos and have the chance to feed the elephants by hand—an endearing and heartwarming scene as the elephants gently receive their treats. This bond beautifully tells the story of the deep relationship between humans and these majestic creatures

The history of Ayutthaya Elephant Camp began in late 1996 with the passion and determination of Khun Laithong Rueang Meephan, who initiated the arrival of the first eight elephants to create a classic tourist activity: elephant rides around the city’s historic sites. Ayutthaya, therefore, is not just an ancient city frozen in time but a living city, where visitors travel back to the past atop elephants, their smiles and laughter echoing the joy in every step.

Moreover, the elephant palace plays a vital role in restoring the image of Thai elephants, creatures once facing hardship, abandonment, and confusion in urban society. This elephant camp has become a warm new home for these elephants and inspired cultural tourism activities that perfectly blend history and nature.

In 1997, the great benevolence of His Majesty the King and Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, Princess of Naradhiwas, graced the palace with royal food offerings to the elephants and witnessed the precious Royal Elephant Catching Ceremony. This elevated Ayutthaya as a prominent center for elephant rituals, drawing worldwide attention.
